AT&T® Base Rate Service
If you have a wide range of data transmission needs, AT&T® Base Rate Service gives you an affordable yet reliable form of digital transport. Base Rate Service lets you custom design a data network, choosing from a variety of dedicated transport options, from the lowest speeds on up to 64 kilobits per second (Kbps).
Base Rate Service gives you digital point-to-point or multi-point connections between sites. You can, for example, link multiple sites so they can share their respective databases, or connect physically separate local area networks (LANs) into a single, powerful resource.
Base Rate Service provides 64-Kbps clear-channel end-to-end transmission. This means your interstate or international data transmissions can be carried by the long-distance carrier of your choice at 64-Kbps, ensuring smooth handoffs. As your data transmission needs grow, Base Rate Service lets you migrate seamlessly to AT&T's higher-speed services, such as DS1 and DS3.
Built-in security and reliability is a critical part of Base Rate Service. AT&T's remote testing capability allows AT&T to pinpoint the location of line trouble and correct it quickly. And Base Rate Service operates with a minimum performance objective of 99.995% error-free seconds.
Adding Secondary Channel Capability lets you monitor the loading and performance of your circuits, while AT&T® Network Reconfiguration Services give you complete control over your network by letting you reroute traffic as needed.

How It Works
In AT&T's Network
AT&T® Base Rate Service uses dedicated private lines between sites that you designate. The service uses end-to-end digital facilities, which are inherently more reliable than analog. Why? An analog system converts your data, which is digital, to analog format, then amplifies the signal for transmission—also amplifying noise the signal encounters, increasing the chance for error. A digital system accepts your digital data without conversion, simply regenerating the original signal as it moves through the network. AT&T's digital network uses timing controls to ensure that signals conform to international standards, so your data can flow seamlessly to other carriers worldwide.
At Your Premises
Any piece of equipment linked to a Base Rate Service facility must connect using a channel/digital service unit (CSU/DSU) or CSU/DSU-capable device.
Pricing/Delivery
Due to the fact that AT&T prices Base Rate Services the same regardless of the circuit transmission speed (2.4 Kbps to 64 Kbps), ValueComm recommends utilizing the full 64 Kbps of the circuit. By doing this, you can realize maximum performance for minimal cost.
