AT&T® Connectionless Broadband Data Service (CBDS)
If you are currently using or considering a private line data network, consider AT&T® Connectionless Broadband Data Service (CBDS). CBDS is a high-performance switched service, transmitting at data speeds from 56/64 kilobits per second (Kbps) to 34 megabits per second (Mbps). CBDS lets you set up communications between multiple sites quickly and easily—without the configuration and management of private lines.

CBDS supports your need for greater connectivity between your business and others. It gives you access to your business partners without the expense of private lines or the elaborate setup required for permanent virtual circuits. CBDS's "dial tone for data" approach lets you send data as simply as dialing your telephone. And attaching new sites to your network is as easy as adding a phone number.

Although CBDS provides wide-area connectivity, it has the flexibility of today's LANs. It connects seamlessly to your existing Token Ring, Ethernet, or FDDI LANs via your router, and handles all major LAN protocols, including TCP/IP, IPX, SNA, Appletalk, NetBIOS, and DECNet. And CBDS lets you send information to multiple people through multicasting, just as you would with a LAN.

The economies of AT&T's extensive public network make CBDS a cost-effective solution no matter how big or small your business is. But what about protecting your current investments? When you need more data capacity, CBDS lets you migrate easily to higher-speed offerings, such as AT&T® ATM.

AT&T® Customer Network Management (CNM) Service enables CBDS customers to manage their networks by allowing them to monitor the Logical Termination Points on the subscriber network interfaces. SBC uses the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) as the standard network management protocol for CNM

You get...

Simplicity—CBDS lets you add sites to your network easily, without elaborate setup. It gives "dial tone for data"—sending data as easy as dialing your phone.

Savings—CBDS lets you connect multiple sites without the expense of multiple private lines.

Flexible Bandwidth—CBDS gives you additional bandwidth on demand by letting your traffic burst beyond your subscribed rate.

Security—CBDS offers call screening, call verification, and call blocking features that help keep your data secure.

Minimizes Congestion—CBDS sends your data to multiple addresses with a single transaction, adding less traffic to your internal networks.

Versatility—CBDS lets you connect Ethernet, Token Ring, and FDDI LANs, and supports all major protocols, including TCP/IP, IPX, Appletalk, SNA, NetBIOS, OSI, and DECNet.

Reliability—AT&T monitors your CBDS network 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to ensure that your service runs smoothly.

How It Works

In AT&T's Network

CBDS packs your data into different-sized packets of information. Your equipment gives each packet a unique address, and AT&T's network switches each packet independently, without establishing a connection across the network beforehand.

At Your Premises

Each of your sites can connect to CBDS via a DS0, DS1, or DS3 digital line.
