AT&T® DS3 Service
When you applications call for high-speed transmissions either locally or long distance, call for AT&T® DS3 Service. DS3 Service carries data at speeds of up to 44.736 megabits—the equivalent of 2,688 pages of text—per second. DS3 Service is your digital connection for bandwidth-hungry applications such as imaging and video conferencing. DS3 Service also provide reliable, secure links between your LANs.
DS3 Service carries your data between your sites over high-speed digital private lines, making it one of the highest-performance connectivity solutions around. Our digital fiber-optic network guarantees a performance objective of 99.995% error-free seconds. And with remote testing, we can pinpoint the location of line trouble easily and fix it quickly.
What about flexibility? DS3 Service lets you integrate AT&T's lower-speed Base Rate and DS1 Services on the same lines, serving a wide range of your business' data needs. You can, for example, link branch offices and accounting operations to a central processor via low-speed Base Rate Service, while linking engineering and design operations via DS3 Service for concurrent, real-time, computer-aided design. You might even run video conferencing between remote sites over DS1 or DS3 lines.
DS3 Service lets you take advantage of high-technology tools like video conferencing. These tools put information in the hands of the people in your business who need it most, quickly enough to make a positive difference. That's the power of AT&T DS3 Service.
You get...
Wide Applications—DS3 Service has the capacity for the most demanding high-bandwidth applications—such as imaging, CAD/CAM, and video conferencing.
Database Economy—High-speed DS3 access to a central database can save you the cost of duplicating databases at remote sites.
Security—DS3 Service maximizes security by containing your data traffic on your organization's own dedicated private line.
Productivity—Linking data input and output of designers, engineers, and manufacturers via DS3 lines lets them communicate more quickly and accurately—cutting your design and production cycles.
Tape Savings—DS3 Service lets you transfer large amounts of data between sites, saving you the cost of tape creation and delivery.
Reliability—DS3 Service keeps your data flowing without costly disruptions, thanks to AT&T fiber-optic network's performance objective of 99.995% error-free seconds.
Ubiquity—DS3 Service can carry your data to any long distance carrier you choose. That's because AT&T uses industry-standard interfaces that connect to any carrier's transmission facilities (electrical, coaxial, or optical).
Reconfiguration—As an option with Fractional DS1 Service, AT&T Network Reconfiguration Service gives you complete control over your network by letting you reroute traffic as needed.

How It Works
In AT&T's Network
AT&T® DS3 Service uses dedicated private lines between sites that you designate. The service uses end-to-end digital facilities, which are inherently more reliable than analog. Why? An analog system converts your data, which is digital, to analog format, then amplifies the signal for transmission—also amplifying noise the signal encounters, increasing the chance for error. A digital system accepts your digital data without conversion, simply regenerating the original signal as it moves through the network. AT&T's digital network uses timing controls to ensure that signals conform to international standards, so your data can flow seamlessly to other carriers worldwide.
At Your Premises
Any piece of equipment linked to a DS3 Service facility must connect using standard channel/digital service unit (CSU/DSU) or a CSU/DSU-capable device.
